Florence Henri, born the 28th of June 1893 in New York and died the 24th of July 1982 in Köln, was a Swiss photographer and painter.
Florence Henri started painting, after studying and practicing the piano. In Berlin, she studied Kurt Schwitters and in Paris Fernand Léger. She joined the Bauhaus in 1927, in Dessau. Finally, she studied photography with Moholy-Nagy.
When Florence Henri returned from Germany, she joined the parisian artistic scene and created our own studio where she dedicated herself to portrait and publicty and fashion photography. In Paris, she met Man Ray, Germaine Krull and the photographer André Kertész. Florence Henri developed a very personal work, by using mirrors and prisms. Her style oscillates between Bauhaus, Dadaism and Surrealism.
